Air Jordan Why Not sneakers were first introduced back in 2018. They were NBA pro Russell Westbrook's first signature line with the brand and debuted to great fanfare.

The original Mirror Image colorway, released on January 15, 2018, featured a black-and-white design depicting Westbrook alongside another NBA great, Michael Jordan. In the years since, there have been multiple other Why Not releases, the most recent being the Zer0.4 colorway, released on June 17, 2021.

Besides being obviously stylish and undeniably comfortable, how do these shoes stack up? Today, we're sharing a full review of the Air Jordan Why Not line, and why we think it deserves all the attention it's getting.

Unique, Artist-Inspired Designs

Want to rock a unique, one-of-a-kind sneaker look on and off the basketball court? If so, then you can't go wrong with a great pair of Why Nots.

These shoes aren't meant to blend in with the crowd. They're unabashedly bright, colorful, and bold with every step. In fact, they're works of art, which is exactly the intent.

With every new release, Westbrook works closely with Nike brand leaders to showcase new and emerging artistic talent.

For instance, two of the most recent summer colorways, titled “KB3” and “Empowerment", gave rise to new portrait pieces by artists Jacob Rochester and Laci Jordan. The pieces represent the intentional streetwear look that these sneakers embody. The style is one that Westbrook himself is known for in real life.

With eye-catching hues that range from KB3's lime green and khaki to the bright coral of the Triple Double King colorway, you can rest assured that you'll have the most sensational sneakers on the block when you choose a pair of Why Nots.

Signature Nike Comfort

Looks aside, how do Air Jordan Why Nots feel? After all, even the best-looking footwear will stay in your closet if it isn't cushy and supportive.

Thankfully, these shoes are more than comfortable. When the Mirror Image colorway was first released, it revealed a full-length Zoom Air unit underneath the new semi-transparent outsole. If you're a runner, then you may be familiar with the way Zoom Air Technology works.

Debuting more than 25 years ago, Zoom Air is a special kind of cushioning that's both responsive and low-profile. The secret is a set of durable tensile fibers, tightly stretched and fitted inside of a Nike Air unit. Every time your foot hits the ground, those fibers compress together.

The result?

A springy, powerful response that cushions your joints and makes every move that much more comfortable. Even if you aren't looking to improve your speed on the track, you'll appreciate the extra pep in your step.

Some newer releases have replaced the full-length Zoom Air outsole with a compression-molded pylon foam midsole and Zoom Air forefoot for an equally supportive feel. We especially love the double-stacked Zoom Air forefoot on the latest Zer0.4 release, which provides incredible feedback and bounce.

Enhanced, Modified Traction

In some of the early Air Jordan Why Not Zero 2 review feedback, users noted that while the traction was solid, it could use some improvement. Brand leaders listened, and newer releases, including the Zer0.4, have an updated herringbone traction made of a special translucent rubber compound.

The traction is noticeable both indoors and outdoors, though some wearers remark that it might wear down more quickly after extended indoor play on a hard court.

One-of-a-Kind Architectural Details

Arguably one of the best features of every Air Jordan Why Not release is the exclusive shape of this shoe. Though each release is a little different, they all showcase an uncommon curvature. This is especially apparent in the heel structure, which is often designed to appear jagged, or "grilled".

Though the lightweight mesh upper is often obscured by the shoe's geometric designs, it adds to the overall look. Plus, the heel design in many releases extends sleekly into the middle of the shoe, for a wrapped-around design that you can't find anywhere else.

All of these design elements are enhanced by the many different textiles, skins, and synthetics that comprise a typical Why Not release. All of the materials are lightweight in nature and offer optimal breathability

Understanding Fit

As with most Nike sneakers, most wearers note that the Why Nots tend to fit true to size. While the shoe might start out a little stiff, it should widen and loosen slightly with regular wear. This is especially the case with the tongue and inside collar, which could feel a little tight upon first wear.

Keep in mind that the exact fit can vary depending on the specific colorway and release that you purchase. For instance, we found that around 53% of people who purchased Why Not Zero 0.1 PFX sneakers felt that they ran true to size, while nearly 12% felt they ran big and 35% felt they were small.

This is why it's best to measure your foot correctly before making a purchase. You can also read reviews and watch unboxings to understand how different lines fit.

What About Price Point?

If you're in the market for a new pair of Air Jordan Why Not sneakers, then keep in mind that newer colorways will often come at a higher price point than their predecessors. However, this isn't always the case.

The price will vary depending on the materials used, and any type of special designs employed. You can find some low-profile models, such as the Zer0.4 "Photon Dust" colorway, released in February 2021, for less than other high-top looks that provide more support, traction, and durability.
