Nike is expected to continue its run of heritage Kobe releases with the return of the Nike Kobe 4 Protro 'All-Star.' The celebrated colorway traces back to the 2009 NBA All-Star Game, one of the more memorable moments from Kobe Bryant’s career.

That year’s All-Star Game carried added significance because Bryant shared MVP honors with former teammate Shaquille O'Neal. The moment briefly reunited two of the most dominant players of their era and added another layer to the complicated but historic relationship that defined much of the Los Angeles Lakers’ 2000s dynasty.

The sneaker itself became closely tied to that performance. The original design featured a bold Varsity Red upper accented by white detailing along the toe, laces, and Swoosh. Thin graphic lines flowed across the midfoot, while metallic gold Kobe branding added contrast and helped elevate the overall look.

For the Protro version, Nike is expected to preserve the visual identity of the 2009 release while updating the internal performance setup. That balance between nostalgia and modern performance has become central to the Protro series, allowing classic Kobe models to remain functional for today’s players while maintaining their original appeal for collectors.

The return also fits within Nike’s broader push around All-Star-themed Kobe retros. Recent years have seen renewed interest in some of Bryant’s most recognizable event-specific sneakers, and the Kobe 4 'All-Star' remains one of the line’s most important game-worn colorways.

The Nike Kobe 4 Protro 'All-Star' is currently expected to release during NBA All-Star Weekend in Spring 2027, with adult sizing priced at $190 USD.
