Nike Teases Kobe Bryant's Next Signature Line Performance Model

Nike Basketball has offered the first glimpse at a brand-new Kobe model—one that traces directly back to an unfinished project Kobe Bryant helped create before his passing.

The surprise reveal came during the 2026 Mamba Invitational in Los Angeles, where Nike celebrated Bryant's legacy through a series of exhibits highlighting the evolution of his signature footwear. Among the displays was "Sole Obsession," a mixed-media installation by artist Troy "TYP" Murray that showcased molded casts of every Kobe outsole from the Kobe 1 through the Kobe AD.

One outsole immediately stood apart.

Positioned alongside the familiar designs was a never-before-seen outsole, quietly teasing what appears to be the next chapter of Kobe Brand. While Nike has yet to reveal the complete shoe, the mystery sole signals that an entirely new Kobe silhouette is currently in development.

The reveal carries even greater significance following comments from Kobe Brand Vice President and General Manager Dan Sunwoo, who confirmed that Nike is bringing one of Kobe Bryant's unfinished concepts to life. "Kobe started this project. We're committed to carrying it forward to the finish. We're working on launching the first unfinished project we started with Kobe."

Rather than creating an entirely new signature model from scratch, Nike is continuing work on a design Kobe himself helped begin. The project reflects the brand's commitment to preserving Bryant's vision while completing ideas that remained unfinished, allowing future generations of athletes to experience concepts that originated directly from the Mamba himself.

The "Sole Obsession" installation also highlighted how Kobe's signature line consistently evolved through performance innovation, with each outsole representing a different stage in the evolution of his footwear. The addition of the unknown outsole suggests that evolution is far from over.

Although Nike has not announced the shoe's name, technology, or release timeline, the teaser marks one of the most meaningful Kobe reveals since the Protro program began. Rather than looking back through retros alone, Kobe Brand is now looking forward by completing a project Bryant personally helped shape.
