Nike Giannis Immortality: The Newest Shoe in the Nike Signature Line

Have you seen the latest shoe in the Nike signature line? No? Then keep reading as we uncover the Nike Giannis Immortality so you can choose your favorite.

The Greek Freak is at it again. Giannis Antetokounmpo does more than just dominate on the basketball court. The Milwaukee Bucks' All-Star MVP is also making a name for himself in the sneaker world.Giannis currently has three shoes as part of Nike's signature line, plus his newest release -- the Nike Giannis Immortality. With a reasonable price point of just $80, this performance sneaker is considered a budget signature model.

But value isn't the only thing you need to know about the Nike Giannis Immortality shoe. Keep reading for our complete guide to a sneaker that combines performance, style, and affordability.

The History of Giannis' Sneakers

Let's start with a little backstory. Giannis Antetokounmpo took the NBA world by storm when he joined the Milwaukee Bucks' roster in 2013 as the 15th pick in the first round of the draft. At 6'11" and 243 pounds, this power forward/center is known not only for his size but his speed, strength, and ball-handling ability.

It wasn't until the summer of 2019 that the Greek Freak partnered with Nike to create a shoe that embodied his performance, style, and abilities. What makes this moment even more special is the fact that, as a kid, Giannis was forced to share a single pair of sneakers with his brother. Now, he's collaborating with one of the biggest athletic shoe brands in the industry. Giannis is also the first international basketball player to receive a Nike sneaker deal.

The Nike Zoom Freak 1 was Giannis' debut sneaker. Notable features include an interlocking GA logo on the tongue and another on the heel. The second logo is intertwined with the player's number 34 and a symbolic Greek flag.

During the design process, Giannis said he wanted to create a "good-looking shoe" that "could make a kid work hard". He wanted a budget sneaker that kids could relate to and afford.

Following the popularity of his first sneaker, Giannis released two more versions of the Zoom Freak. And in an effort to remain budget-friendly, the NBA star also released a takedown model -- the Nike Giannis Immortality.

All About Nike Giannis Immortality

The Nike Giannis Immortality collection currently offers two different designs -- the original and the highly anticipated Immortality 2 which is set to release at the end of 2022. Unlike other takedown models, experts argue that these are some of the better budget sneakers on the market today.

Here's why.

Material and Fit

The material of the Nike Giannis Immortality is one reason for the sneaker's affordable price. Users will notice a lot of mesh included in the shoe's overall design.

The tongue boasts a wide mesh while the back has a micro-molded mesh that resembles neoprene. The upper is crafted using a mesh overlay and synthetic leather.

While the materials are comfortable and flexible, they're definitely on the thinner side. Even so, the sneaker's footwell still offers adequate support and cushion. The knit material will break in over time, so keep this in mind.

Customers report that Giannis Immortality sneakers are true to size, offering a secure, snug fit. After they break in, you'll notice a looser, more relaxed fit.

Cushion and Support

For those purchasing the Nike Giannis Immortality for performance, you'll need to take a closer look at the sneaker's cushion and support features. But, hey, if Bucks' teammate Grayson Allen can rock these kicks on the court, chances are, you can too.

Similar to a lot of budget sneaker models, phylon provides most of the support here. Certain sections of the phylon are caged, like on the outsole and lateral heel. While the shoe may feel stiff at first, they loosen up over time and offer adequate compression and comfort for everyday use and wear.

Nike also uses this cushioned area for promotional purposes. You'll notice the words "Lagos" on the sneaker's right heel (Giannis' parent's hometown) and "Athens", the Greek Freak's hometown, on the left heel. The sneaker also boasts the iconic Nike Swoosh on both sides, which is a nod to the original Nike Zoom Freak 1.

In terms of support, experts compare Immortality's forefoot with some of Kyrie Irving's most popular shoes. The midsole's curved design has pros and cons for performance. On one hand, it helps players more easily roll into their stride on the court. However, some players reported a "wobbly experience" when making lateral movements.

One notable feature is the sneaker's outrigger on the forefront, which is better than most comparable budget sneakers and reduces your risk of a rolled ankle. The lateral midfoot helps keep your foot in the footbed, offering solid in-game support.

Traction and Grip

Traction and grip are two important features for ballers. Nike Giannis Immortality relies on a sectioned herringbone pattern throughout. This unique design adds to the outsole's performance and durability.

The grooves of the herringbone design are also deep, offering extra grip on the court and preventing dangerous slipping.

The Immortality 2

As with most highly anticipated releases, Nike has dropped a few teasers and hints about what we can expect from Giannis' newest budget sneaker. The first released images show a White/Barely Volt/Grey Fog colorway. Other potential colorways include a bright blue and crimson design with a hint of lime green and a darker colorway with a marble finish.

Some reported changes from the original design include a larger reverse Swoosh symbol and engineered mesh. The Immorality 2 will also boast a new synthetic leather blend but still showcase the same outsole as the first model.

Add the Nike Giannis Immortality to Your Budget Sneaker Collection

Basketball players design and produce some of the best-performing sneakers on the market. Their takedown models also offer a budget-friendly option.

Available in a variety of colorways, you can purchase a few Nike Giannis Immortality models for both on and off the court. You can also wait for the highly-anticipated Immortality 2 release later this year.
