Few Air Jordan 4 colorways are as closely connected to the model’s beginnings as the 'Fire Red.' Originally released in 1989, the white, black, and red sneaker helped establish the silhouette during Michael Jordan’s fifth NBA season and will return once again in Fall 2027.

Designed by Tinker Hatfield, the original Air Jordan 4 lineup included four foundational colorways: 'Fire Red,' 'White Cement,' 'Black Cement,' and 'Military Blue.' While each has returned numerous times, the 'Fire Red' has gone through several different interpretations as Jordan Brand’s approach to retro releases evolved.

The 2006 edition was particularly distinctive, adding Mars Blackmon branding to the heel as a reference to Spike Lee’s famous Jordan character. Another retro followed in 2012, this time using Jumpman branding rather than the Nike Air treatment found on the original.

That changed with the 2020 release, when Nike Air finally returned to the heel. The sneaker also adopted a shape closer to the 1989 pair, making it one of the more faithful “Fire Red” retros released up to that point.

Jordan Brand is expected to push that approach further for 2027. The upcoming version is reportedly being constructed using the brand’s newer original-inspired Air Jordan 4 shape, potentially bringing its proportions and overall profile even closer to early pairs.

The familiar palette will remain intact. White leather dominates the upper, contrasted by black across the wings, mesh, heel, and portions of the midsole. Fire Red then brings the sneaker to life across the eyelets, lining, tongue branding, midsole detailing, and heel logo. Most importantly for longtime Jordan collectors, Nike Air branding is expected to remain on the heel, preserving one of the defining elements of the original 1989 design.

The Air Jordan 4 'Fire Red' is expected to release in Fall 2027 in full-family sizing, with adult pairs priced at $230 USD.
