Nike built the Field General in the 1980s as a quarterback's cleat, giving it a Waffle outsole whose deep-set lugs bit into artificial turf. 'Pale Ivory Gum Yellow Dusty Cactus' sets an off-white synthetic leather and canvas upper against a gum sole, with the muted green picking out the Swoosh and heel. A foam midsole sits between them. The studded tread pattern that once handled turf is now molded in gum rubber, which marks and polishes a hardwood floor far less than the original cleat did.
