Nike's first running shoe arrived in 1972 as the Cortez, a low-cut build on a foam wedge midsole with herringbone traction beneath. 'Black Sail' pairs an all-black upper with a Sail-colored sole, putting the shoe's hardest contrast along the sidewall where the two meet. That split makes the midsole wedge's taper from heel to forefoot easy to trace. The Swoosh runs in black against black panels, leaving the sole line as the only break in the upper's darkness.
