Nike's 1977 LD-1000 paired a molded waffle outsole with a mesh-and-suede upper, Bowerman's formula for a long-distance trainer that gripped without spikes. 'Navy Hydrogen Blue Gum' sets navy across the suede overlays with a lighter blue lifting the Swoosh and heel tab against a paler mesh. A gum sole runs below, its amber tone warming against the cooler upper. The gum compound grips well on smooth surfaces but scuffs more readily than black rubber.
