Bill Bowerman poured rubber into his wife's waffle iron to make the sole that gives the Nike Moon Shoe its name, the crater-like prints it left in dirt supplying the rest. He built it for athletes at the 1972 Olympic marathon trials. 'Summit White Crimson Gum' sets a warm off-white nylon upper against a red Swoosh, with a gum rubber waffle sole beneath. The upper is cut thin, as a racing flat of the period was.
