KAWS x Air Jordan 4 'Dark Grey' Returns for the Collaboration’s 10th Anniversary

Nearly a decade after one of Jordan Brand's most celebrated artist collaborations, KAWS is returning to the Air Jordan 4. The upcoming 'Dark Grey' colorway is expected to arrive in May 2027, marking the first new release from the partnership since its original debut in 2017.

When KAWS first reimagined the Air Jordan 4, the Brooklyn-based artist transformed the basketball classic into a collectible piece of wearable art. His distinctive hand illustrations, premium suede construction, and signature “XX” branding helped establish the collaboration as one of the most recognizable artist-led projects in Jordan Brand history.

The original 'Cool Grey' and 'Black' colorways quickly became highly sought-after releases, maintaining their popularity on the secondary market throughout the following decade. Neither version has received a retro, making the upcoming “Dark Grey” the third colorway in the collaboration's history.

While official images have not yet surfaced, early details suggest the new edition will revisit several elements that defined the 2017 releases. Premium suede construction is expected to return, accompanied by KAWS' embroidered hand graphics across the upper.

The artist's recognizable “XX” logos are also expected to appear on the heels, replacing traditional Jordan branding. A glow-in-the-dark outsole, another memorable feature of the original collaboration, is reportedly planned for the new release.

The choice of Dark Grey offers an opportunity to revisit the collaboration's original aesthetic without directly reproducing either 2017 colorway. However, the final materials, graphics, and overall appearance remain unconfirmed until official images are revealed.

The timing is particularly significant, as 2027 marks the 10th anniversary of KAWS' first Air Jordan 4 collaboration. The upcoming release brings together sneaker culture and contemporary art once again, introducing the partnership to a new generation of collectors.

The KAWS x Air Jordan 4 'Dark Grey' is expected to release May 15, 2027. Available in men's sizing, the sneaker is expected to retail for $500 USD.
