Salehe Bembury Introduces the SPUNGE Lumina 'Cenote' With a Lighter, Translucent Design

Salehe Bembury continues to expand his independent footwear label, SPUNGE, with the introduction of the Lumina 'Cenote.' Building on the foundation of the Osmosis, the latest silhouette explores a lighter, more streamlined construction while retaining the unconventional design language associated with Bembury's work.

The biggest improvement comes from the introduction of a Mono-Mesh upper, which reduces the sneaker's weight by 15% compared to the Osmosis. The updated material creates a more breathable appearance while allowing the shoe's internal construction to become part of its visual identity.

Rather than concealing its layers, the Lumina uses overlapping sections of semi-translucent mesh that reveal the structure beneath. The design gives the sneaker a distinctive sense of depth, with different materials and colors becoming visible depending on the angle.

Bembury has also refined the area surrounding the laces. The bulky padding previously found on the Osmosis has been removed, resulting in a cleaner eyestay construction and a less substantial appearance across the upper.

Underfoot, the Lumina retains SPUNGE's Squish Tech cushioning system, now housed within a cage that wraps around the entire cushioning structure. The updated arrangement preserves a recognizable element of the previous model while introducing a new approach to its construction.

The debut 'Cenote' colorway combines green, blue, and purple across the sneaker. These shades interact with the translucent mesh panels, creating overlapping colors that complement the silhouette's experimental design.

With its reduced weight, exposed layering, and revised cushioning enclosure, the Lumina represents another step in Bembury's development of SPUNGE as a standalone footwear brand.

The Salehe Bembury SPUNGE Lumina 'Cenote' releases October 28, 2026, at 12 PM for newsletter subscribers, followed by a public launch on October 29. The sneaker will retail for $160 USD.
