New Balance 990v7 'Kool Grey' Introduces the Next Generation of the 990 Series

Few running silhouettes have maintained the cultural relevance of the New Balance 990. Since its introduction in 1982, the series has evolved from a premium performance runner into one of the most recognizable staples in lifestyle footwear. Now, New Balance is preparing to introduce its seventh generation with the 990v7 Made in USA 'Kool Grey.'

The upcoming model marks the next chapter following the 990v6, which helped modernize the franchise through updated styling and a series of collaborations. After months of early previews and billboard appearances, official images finally provide a closer look at the latest evolution.

For its debut, New Balance returns to the color most closely associated with the 990 series. 'Kool Grey' combines multiple shades of grey across a layered upper, maintaining the familiar aesthetic while introducing subtle changes to the silhouette's design.

Premium suede covers the toe, heel, eyestays, and lower side panels, while darker grey overlays create additional depth around the midfoot. Breathable mesh fills the toe box and side panels, preserving the material combination that has defined the 990 lineup for decades.

The most noticeable color accents appear on the signature “N” logo, which features a textured design with pale blue filling and soft yellow outlines. Those same shades return along the midsole, joined by off-white details that give the sneaker a slightly more contemporary appearance.

As part of the Made in USA collection, the 990v7 continues New Balance's emphasis on premium materials and domestic manufacturing. The understated launch colorway also reinforces the brand's approach to introducing new 990 generations through familiar grey palettes before expanding into additional releases.

The New Balance 990v7 Made in USA 'Kool Grey' is expected to release November 6, 2026. The sneaker will be available in unisex sizing, with pricing yet to be announced.
