Nike keeps the Cortez on the same low-profile build and herringbone sole it launched with in 1972 as the brand's first running shoe. 'Triple Black Polka Dot' layers a dot pattern over an all-black finish, where the circles register as texture rather than contrast because dot and ground share one tone. The pattern becomes visible only at an angle, as the dots catch light differently than the surface around them. The black midsole carries the dark treatment down past the sidewall.
