A nylon-and-suede upper over a waffle-patterned outsole has defined the Nike Waffle Racer since its 1977 debut as a road runner. Wheat Gold carries the upper in a warm tan, with Picante Red marking the Swoosh and heel tab. Bill Bowerman designed the waffle tread to grip without spikes, and the squared studs he cut into it remain the model's most recognizable feature from the ground up.
