Bill Bowerman gave the Nike LD-1000 a markedly flared heel in 1977, widening the sole outward at the rear to broaden the landing platform for distance runners. 'Cream Sail Pink Foam' carries cream and sail across the mesh and suede with a pink accent on the Swoosh and heel tab. The waffle tread sits beneath that flare. Nike reined the flare in on later reissues, though the outward taper at the heel remains visible in profile.
