Nike built the Cortez in 1972 as a road running shoe, with a foam wedge midsole and a herringbone outsole that was novel for distance running at the time. The TXT version renders the upper in textile rather than leather. 'Light Photo Blue Sail Muslin Lightning' runs pale blue across the body with off-white overlays and a yellow accent. The herringbone tread still runs the length of the outsole.
