Few Kobe Bryant sneakers capture Nike Basketball's experimental design era quite like the Kobe 7 'Invisibility Cloak.' Originally released in 2012, the colorway became a standout for its mysterious, color-shifting finish. Now, 15 years later, Nike is preparing to bring the fan favorite back for Fall 2027.
The release also represents an important milestone for Kobe's signature line. The Kobe 7 will receive its first Protro treatment, introducing the seventh signature model into Nike's ongoing series of performance-focused retros.
What made the original 'Invisibility Cloak' memorable was its ability to change appearance depending on the lighting. The iridescent upper shifts between Court Purple and Turquoise Blue, creating an almost holographic effect that helped establish the sneaker's distinctive nickname.

Nike is expected to preserve the original color palette for the 2027 edition. Textured black leather provides contrast against the shifting colors, while Metallic Silver Swooshes and Infrared Kobe branding add smaller highlights throughout the design.
An icy translucent outsole completes the familiar appearance, maintaining the visual identity that made the original release so recognizable. While the Protro designation suggests updated performance technology, Nike has not yet revealed the specific cushioning or construction changes planned for the model.
The return also marks the first retail comeback of the 'Invisibility Cloak' since 2012, giving longtime Kobe collectors another opportunity to secure one of the more unconventional designs from his signature footwear history.
The Nike Kobe 7 Protro 'Invisibility Cloak' is expected to release in Fall 2027 through Nike and select Nike Basketball retailers. An exact release date and retail price have not yet been announced.
