Jordan Brand's 30th anniversary celebration of Space Jam is bringing several memorable sneakers back into the spotlight, but one of its most ambitious designs will never reach retail. The Air Jordan 11 'Space Jam Galaxy' recently surfaced in Los Angeles, offering a rare look at an experimental concept developed for the film's milestone anniversary.
While the original Air Jordan 11 'Space Jam' remains closely associated with Michael Jordan's appearance in the 1996 movie, this unreleased version explores the film's science-fiction setting rather than recreating the sneaker worn on screen.

The standout feature is a color-shifting green finish that replaces the traditional appearance of the Air Jordan 11's patent leather mudguard. A lenticular treatment changes depending on the viewing angle, creating a futuristic effect inspired by the movie's outer-space setting.
Premium leather covers the upper, while glow-in-the-dark laces and outsoles add another dimension to the design. Together, the materials create a noticeably different interpretation of the silhouette, combining familiar Air Jordan 11 construction with experimental visual effects.
Despite its connection to the anniversary, the 'Space Jam Galaxy' never advanced beyond the sample stage. The specialized materials reportedly made production too expensive for a wider commercial release, ultimately preventing the sneaker from joining the official collection.

Instead, Jordan Brand's 2026 anniversary lineup includes the returning Air Jordan 11 'Space Jam' Retro OG, alongside new interpretations such as the 'Magic Ball' and 'Green Screen.' Each explores a different element of the film, while the unreleased “Galaxy” sample offers a glimpse at another creative direction considered during development.
For collectors, the sample provides an interesting look behind the scenes of Jordan Brand's design process, showing how far the company experimented with the Air Jordan 11 before finalizing its anniversary releases.
The Air Jordan 11 'Space Jam Galaxy' remains an unreleased sample, with no public launch planned.
