Penny Hardaway’s Knicks Huarache 2K4 PE Is Finally Getting a Release
Penny’s rare Knicks-era PE finally hits retail shelves.ByAaron ShamimAug 27, 2026

More than two decades after Penny Hardaway wore it in New York, one of his Nike Air Zoom Huarache 2K4 player exclusives is finally making the jump from the court to retail. The upcoming release recreates the pair associated with Hardaway’s brief run with the New York Knicks in 2004. Nike dresses the early-2000s basketball model in Black, Varsity Royal, and Safety Orange, translating the Knicks’ recognizable team colors onto one of the era’s defining performance silhouettes.
Black handles much of the foundation, allowing the blue and orange accents to give the sneaker its New York identity. The most important Penny-specific detail arrives at the heel, where his One Cent logo separates the release from a standard Huarache 2K4 retro. The connection also captures an easily overlooked chapter of Hardaway’s career. After establishing himself as an Orlando Magic star and later playing in Phoenix, Penny was traded to New York during the 2003-04 season. His Knicks tenure was relatively short, making footwear from that period considerably less familiar than the sneakers associated with his Orlando years.

The Huarache 2K4 has its own place in Nike Basketball history. Introduced during a transitional period for the category, its streamlined upper, sculpted ankle construction and Zoom Air cushioning helped establish a performance formula that would influence Nike’s basketball footwear throughout the decade. Kobe Bryant also became closely associated with the silhouette during his sneaker free-agency period, but this release brings the focus back to another major Nike signature athlete from the era.
Turning Penny’s Knicks PE into a general release gives collectors something different from another recreation of his best-known signature models. It reaches deeper into Nike Basketball’s archive, bringing a previously player-exclusive piece of his career to consumers for the first time. The Nike Air Zoom Huarache 2K4 'Penny Hardaway Knicks' releases September 10, 2026, and will retail for $200 USD.
