In 1979, the original Nike Air Max Tailwind first debuted. Featuring a small air cushion in the heel, it set the stage for future Air Tech models that would come later. Now, there are more than 20 different versions to choose from, and each offers its own spin on the timeless classic.

Whether you’ve got a closet full of Air Max sneakers or you’re eyeing your first pair, you need to make sure they fit correctly. Today, we’re sharing our ultimate Air Max sizing guide to help you choose the right ones.

Using Our Online Size Guide

When you’re looking for any type of Nike size guide, always start by clicking on our Size Info page. Here, you’ll find complete sizing information for both Nike and Adidas sneakers. For easy reference, we’ve broken the guides into the following categories:

  • Men
  • Women
  • Kids

On each Nike chart, you’ll see four separate rows. These include:

  • CM
  • EU
  • UK
  • US

Let’s break each row down so you know what it means.

CM

The CM row is for any type of Nike footwear that requires a heel-to-toe size measurement in centimeters. To get this measurement, start by drawing a straight line on a blank sheet of paper. The line should be longer than your foot.

With your back against the wall, stand on the line. Then, make a mark at the top of your longest toe. Make a second mark at the back center part of your heel, and draw a line that connects the two points.

Use a flexible measuring tape to measure the full length of the line. Then, you can reference this metric when using the online Nike shoe fitting guide.

EU

The EU row depicts European shoe sizing. For men’s shoes, you can usually find your EU comparison by adding 33 or 34 to your standard size. Women can find their EU sizing by adding 31 to their standard size.

For instance, say you wear a men’s size 10 in Nike Air Max 95 Marathons, then you’ll wear a 44 in EU sizes. Likewise, a woman who wears a size 8 in a Nike Air max style will wear a 39 in an EU size.

UK

For the most part, UK sizes tend to run similarly to US sizes. For instance, a men’s size 10 is a UK size 9 for most types of Nike footwear. While there’s only about one size difference between the two, this isn’t the case for women.

In women’s styles, UK sizes tend to be about 2.5 sizes smaller than US sizes. This means that if you’re a woman who wears a size 7 in the Nike Womens Air Max 97 Marathon, then your comparable UK size is a 4.5.

US

If you’re in the United States, then stick to your US shoe size when shopping for a new pair of Nike Air Max sneakers. If you don’t know your current shoe size, then you can find it by following the paper method described above. Or, you can go into a brick-and-mortar shoe store to have your foot professionally measured.

Converting Men’s Sizes to Women’s Sizes

The glory of Nike Air Max sneakers is universal. For that reason, you might have your eye on a pair of men’s sneakers, even though you usually wear women’s sizes.

If this happens, then don’t despair! You can figure out the appropriate size without a ton of guesswork. Most women can go down about 1.5 sizes when buying from the men’s collection. If you wear a size 10 in women’s, then you should wear a size 8.5 in men’s.

Conversely, men should add 1.5 to their usual size when shopping for women’s Nike Air Max sneakers. Keep this in mind if you find a unisex pair you love, like the Nike Air Max Sequent 4 Marathon.

Sizing Kid’s Sneakers

In addition to our men’s and women’s sizing charts, you’ll also find a kid’s chart in our online guide. The same dimensions, comparisons, and metrics also hold true for these sneakers.

One consideration to note? If you usually wear a women’s sneaker and your foot is on the smaller side, then you may be able to wear a larger kid’s size sneaker instead. By going this route, you can usually save a little money. You’ll also have access to some of the Air Max styles and colorways that are designed exclusively for tiny wearers.

In general, women’s sizing tends to run about 1.5 times larger than kid’s sizing. That said, to calculate your kid’s size, simply subtract about 1.5 from your adult women’s size. If you wear a size 8 in the Nike Womens Air Max 200 Marathon, then you’ll need a size 6.5 or 7 in kid’s.

Looking for pair that’s equally bright and bold? Take a look at the Nike Air Max 270 RT TD Marathons.

Do Nike Air Max Sneakers Run True to Size?

For the most part, you’ll find that your newest pair of Nike Air Max sneakers will fit true to size. However, some wearers have found that they can be a little narrow. Especially if you find that your foot is a little on the wider side, then you may want to size up just to have enough wiggle room.
