More than 200 local youth kicked off the upcoming school year with new shoes, new experiences, and renewed inspiration as the Village of Robbins welcomed residents, families, and visitors for Dwyane Wade Robbins Day on July 26. KICKS CREW was proud to be a major partner in the celebration, helping bring the community together for a day centered on opportunity, mentorship, and giving back.
The hometown celebration honored NBA Hall of Famer Dwyane Wade while highlighting the importance of investing in young people through sports, education, and community engagement.
The day began with a free multi-sport youth academy, where more than 200 campers participated in basketball, football, and cheerleading activities led by experienced coaches. To help students start the new school year with confidence, every participant received a brand-new pair of Way of Wade sneakers.

Following the academy, attendees gathered for a community conversation featuring Dwyane Wade, his father Dwyane Wade Sr., Robbins Mayor Darren Bryant, and KICKS CREW Founder Ross Yip. The discussion focused on the lessons Wade learned growing up in Robbins, the role sports played in shaping his journey, and the importance of mentorship, perseverance, and creating opportunities for future generations.
One of the day's most memorable moments came with the official unveiling of Dwyane Wade Boulevard, permanently honoring one of Robbins' most celebrated native sons. The dedication recognized Wade's remarkable basketball career while celebrating his continued commitment to giving back to the community that helped shape him.
The celebration continued with a family-friendly community festival featuring music, food, games, and activities that brought together residents of all ages in recognition of Robbins' history and future.

"I left Robbins chasing a dream. Coming back to the place that raised me and being honored here is something I'll never forget. To everyone who made Dwyane Wade Robbins Day possible, thank you. Your love and support mean more than I can put into words. To my family, this day was incredibly special, and it's a memory we'll carry with us forever. Thank you for always believing in me and standing by my side. And to Robbins, let's keep growing together. Never let where you come from be a reason to hold you back. Instead, let it remind you of how far you can go." — Dwyane Wade
The impact of Robbins Day will extend well beyond a single afternoon. Renovations are currently underway at the outdoor basketball courts at the Robbins Community Center, creating an improved space for local youth and families. Once completed, the courts will host future basketball programming designed to encourage greater participation in sports and strengthen community engagement.
Dwyane Wade Robbins Day reflected a shared commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for young people while celebrating the hometown that helped shape one of basketball's greatest players. Through community partnerships and a focus on investing in the next generation, the event became more than a celebration—it became a lasting reminder of what is possible when a community comes together.
