Best WNBA Tunnel Fits

If you haven't been tuning into the WNBA, we don't know where you’ve been. As the world collectively turns its attention to the WNBA, these female powerhouses are finally receiving a fraction of the media coverage and recognition they deserve. While there is still a long road to equality and many improvements to be made, the increased attention and appreciation are significant steps forward. This recognition, however, doesn’t stop on the court and bleeds into the fashion of these players.

Historically, there has been a double standard placed on female athletes, suggesting that the only box they’ll fit into is “player,” completely shutting down any sides of beauty, fashion, or glamor. DiJonai Carrington, shooter for the Connecticut Suns, explains, “In the past, I feel like being an athlete and a dog on the court did not ever overlap with being into beauty or fashion. Either you were playing sports, or you were modeling. But now, you’re seeing a lot of intersection, which is great.”  As this stigma is shattering, viewers and media have been looking more into WNBA players when they aren’t in matching uniforms. The fashion of the WNBA has exploded, and it's only going up from here.

The famous tunnel that directs players from their locker rooms to the arenas has become much more than a transportation route; it has become a full-blown fashion show. Much like their NBA counterparts, WNBA athletes are transforming the pregame walk to the locker room into a runway, showcasing a mix of high fashion, streetwear, and personal style. This newfound focus on fashion has not only highlighted the players as style icons but also provided a platform for them to express their individuality and cultural influences. It's a space for expression and individuality, and viewers aren’t the only ones who have enjoyed this; major fashion houses and designers have taken full advantage of this and have begun sponsoring and dressing these athletes head to toe.

As the 2024 WNBA season is in full swing, we have laid out our favorite tunnel looks past and present, and with 12 teams, there are plenty of ultra-high fashion looks to choose from.

Sydney Colson - Las Vegas Aces

Colson sports baggy ‘Mnml’ camouflage cargos with a simple cut-off tee and beige scarf that compiles for the perfect off-duty look. She pairs the look with her Louis Vuitton ‘Neverfull MM,’ and she's right; we’ll never be too full of her fits.

Styled by Amadi Brooks, Sydney Colson steps out in a floral look that shows off the ultimate quad goals with just the right amount of leg. Light blue knee-high boots play with her forest green bag for a full-on edgy garden look. Amadi Brooks continues to dress WNBA players and nails it here.

Nika Muhl - Seattle Storms

Nika Muhl responds to her continuous sunglass hate with a futuristic pair by Jaded London and Femme LA that adds to her look. Taking jorts to a whole new level, this green tie-dye look with silver pumps evokes a strong and powerful force. We always love a boundary-pushing look.

Kahleah Cooper - Phoenix Mercury

Kahleah Cooper gets an A+ as she rocks Tyler The Creator’s Golf Le Fleur line with a crocheted bag and pink Maison Mihara sneakers. This equally comfortable and stylish look plays with spring colors and textures, adding a bright and dreamy attitude to an already effortless look.

Tiffany Hayes - Las Vegas Aces

Ok Tiffany we see you! The ‘Canadian Tuxedo’ has not only infiltrated the streets of the UK but also the WNBA tunnel. This all-denim look is broken up by classic Timberland boots that add a feeling of edge and a touch of workwear aesthetic. Paired with a longtime arm candy partner of Tiffany Hayes, the Louis Vuttion ‘Keepall Duffle,’ she achieves the perfect streetwear look with some bling.

Clearly a fan of monochrome, Hayes steps out again with her trusted ‘Keepall Duffle’ from Louis Vuitton while leaning into a casual vibe. This all-brown look intersects knit, silk, and leather textures to create the most well-rounded outfit. As the summer nears its end, we are definitely getting some fall inspo from this look.

Arike Ogunbowale - Dallas Wings

We don’t know where the line is to consider something jorts or just plain jeans. This look tests that with super long jorts (or cropped jeans). Regardless, this edgy look from Arike Ogunbowale is decked out with accessories, from chains to a bedazzled crown. Simple light-wash denim paired with a rigid leather jacket and chunky boots is a silhouette from which we all should take notes. This look is one of our favorites overall.

Olivia Nelson - Connecticut Suns

From the Marni tee to the Balenciaga sunglasses to the fold-over slouch boots, we don’t know where to start with this outfit. The micro short trend has completely taken over this summer, and we’re grateful to see it in the tunnel. However, we can say with full confidence that this isn't what we look like grabbing our morning latte, but good for you, Olivia. This effortless yet breathtakingly stylish look is the perfect blend of casual and high-end pieces.

Alyssa Thomas - Connecticut Suns

Saving the best for last, Alyssa Thomas is seen with jeweled jorts (say that five times fast) and a gorgeous sweater from ‘Wisdom of Ages.’ This athletic and baggy look is the exact look we love to see from these streetwear-loving athletes. Thomas keeps it simple with her accessories, sporting a mini version of Tiffany Hayes’s Louis Vuitton duffle as a clutch.
