adidas AE 1 Cleats Bring Anthony Edwards' Signature to the Gridiron
AE 1 evolves into football cleat.ByAaron ShamimMay 05, 2026

adidas is expanding the reach of Anthony Edwards’ signature line by introducing a football-ready version of the adidas AE 1. The new cleated model carries his on-court identity into a different sport, reflecting the growing crossover between basketball style and football performance.
The design stays closely tied to the AE 1 Low silhouette, preserving the bold shape that helped the original model stand out. Its molded side cage, streamlined profile, and low-cut structure all remain intact, giving the cleat a recognizable look even with its updated purpose. The main shift comes underfoot, where traditional basketball tooling is replaced with a cleated plate built for traction on grass.

Three launch colorways anchor the release, each drawing inspiration from earlier AE 1 designs. A clean black-and-white version offers a more classic look, while a red-and-black pair adds a sharper contrast. Rounding out the lineup is a blue edition influenced by Edwards’ Minnesota Timberwolves ties, complete with subtle green accents that give the pair added personality.
The move highlights how quickly Edwards has become one of adidas’ most important athletes. His explosive playing style and growing influence have already made the AE 1 one of the brand’s strongest recent signature launches, and extending it into football only reinforces that momentum. It also reflects a broader shift, with brands looking to blur the lines between performance categories and expand signature models into new spaces.
The adidas AE 1 Cleat is set to release on May 7, 2026, priced at $160 USD.
